When plasma is used to functionalize a surface prior to bonding, the resulting bonds will display a strong adhesion improvement. Plasma can be used on a wide variety of materials: metals, glass, ceramics, and even natural materials such as woods and textiles respond very well to plasma functionalization.

Plasma surface treatment for adhesive bonding

Medical equipment
Adhesion improvement via surface modification using eltech Plasma treatment with simultaneous ultrafine cleaning produces better adhesion capability and bonding strength on the surfaces to be joined.
After the plasma surface coating, the structure of the chemical molecule on the surface of the material changes and becomes slightly different from the chemical structure of the material itself; more free radical groups are created on the surface to improve the activation.
The treated material has a higher surface activity and facilitates subsequent bonding.

Without plasma surface treatment, many materials like polypropylene (PP), polyether ether ketone (PEEK) or polyoxymethylene (POM) cannot be bonded at all or bonded only poorly. High bonding strength and durable bonding of glass, metal, ceramic and plastics present special challenges for the manufacturing industry.
